Kuala Lumpur

My hometown is Bangsar, which is situated at the west of Kuala Lumpur. Before I go into detail, let me briefly introduce Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur, the nation’s capital city is a modern and fast moving city. KL, as it is almost always called, with a population of 1.8 million leads the nation's fast paced development in trade and commerce and is the pulse of the nation. The city's strategic location near the heart of SE Asia, along with excellent supporting infrastructure has made it a popular venue for international events, conventions, and exhibitions.

Kuala Lumpur was founded in 1857 by a group of Chinese who made their way up the Klang river in search of tin. KL's "founding father," Yap Ah Loy, with his infamous reign over the entire Kuala Lumpur mining area - with increased British involvement in Malaya, it would eventually place Kuala Lumpur at center of history.

From a malaria-infested mining town filled with ramshackle hovels and coolie lines, Kuala Lumpur has grown to become one of the most modern and vibrant cities in Asia today.

Cosmopolitan and sophisticated, the city-slickers of KL, as they are fondly called, are proud of their city, home to one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Miners and coolies armed with spades and cangkuls have disappeared from the scene; they have been replaced by bankers and businessmen armed with PDAs and handphones who are hard at work composing another chapter of the urban legend.

The main shopping areas in Kuala Lumpur are Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Masjid India, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Petaling Street and Jalan Bandar.

Besides, there are several tourism spots in Kuala Lumpur. Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Dataran Merdeka, China Town, Central Market, Jln Masjid India and Masjid Jamek are the best place for capturing picturesque scenery. Istana Negara, Petronas Twin Towers, the KLCC Park, and Menara Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Tourist Info Centre should not be missed too.

Kuala Lumpur features many magnetic nightspots from karaoke lounges, jazz bars, pool halls, pubs, discos, dance clubs and wine bars. Discos welcome energetic patrons as early as 9pm but the excitement of live performances really start at 10pm or later. Follow the bright lights and have some fun and excitement at Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Imbi, and Jalan Bangsar.
